Deceased Name: DR. ELEANOR BERMAN Dr. Eleanor Berman, 79, of Chicago, formerly of Duluth
died Monday, April 30, 2001, in her home. She was born Oct. 5, 1921, to Morris and Lena Berman in
Duluth. Eleanor graduated from Duluth Central High School and the Superior
State Teachers College. She taught high school chemistry in Rose City, Mich.,
and taught at Jeffers High School in Paynsdale, Mich., and St. Croix Falls
High School, Wis. Following several years of teaching, Eleanor returned to
Duluth and worked in local hospitals. She then attended and graduated from
the University of Minnesota with a Ph.D. in chemistry with a specialty in
toxicology. Following graduation, Eleanor worked at the Illinois Masonic
Hospital and the Heocktone Institute, which later became the Cook County
Hospital. She retired in the mid-1990s after more than 30 years of employment
in Chicago. Eleanor was also a consultant for the National Bureau of
Standards. She was preceded in death by a brother, H.G.I. Berman; an
infant sister, Alice Berman; and her parents, Morris and Lena Berman. Eleanor is survived by her nephews, Allan (Sally) Berman
of Ontonagon, Mich., and Anthony (Phyllis) Berman of Rochester, Minn.;
great-nieces Jennifer and Erin Berman; and a great-nephew, Adam Berman. Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel.
Burial in Shaara Tzedek Cemetery, Hermantown. Arrangements by Johnson
